History of Cagliari Elmas Airport

Cagliari Elmas International Airport opened its doors to the public on May 3, 1937.

In the same year, the airport was named after Mario Mameli, a bomber pilot from the fascist period of the Italian airforce. Mameli was shot dead in the Second Italo-Ethiopian War.

After the terminal's expansion, the airport upgraded its facilities in 2003, providing six aircraft bridges for boarding passengers.

The airport is currently operated by the SOGAER company, founded in 1990.

SOGAER obtained the "Airport Certification" by ENAC (an Italian Civil Aviation Authority), and in April 2007, the 40-year management concession of Cagliari Elmas International Airport.
